Basketball seasons end for Valiants

March 9, 2007 · No Comments

Basketball season is over for Central Valley. The girls’ season came to an end two Saturdays ago at the district tournament.
The Valiants were locked in an intense battle against the Hillsboro Burros. The Valiants played their last game with heart, losing to the Burros in double-overtime.
On a positive note, coach Rick Sondrol and the 10 other girls will only have to say goodbye to one senior this year—Ronnika Smithee. Ashley Cedergren, Allison Lazur and Katie Kuster will be returning next season as the team’s seniors. On the negative, Smithee was a key player this season and will definitely be missed.
The girls finished the season with a record of 7-13, points ranging from 18 in a loss against Midway, to 68 in a win against Thompson. Other wins were posted over Midkota, Griggs County, North Border, Larimore and Climax. Losses included many close games, two of which were only by 3 points or less.
Coach Sondrol was happy with how the team progressed throughout the season. With three experienced seniors returning next year, it is clear that things are very likely to keep improving for the Valiants, the veteran coach hinted.
The Central Valley boys finished their regular season with a record of 6-13. Highest scoring game of the season was 69 in a win against North Border, and the lowest 30, losing to MayPort-CG. Other wins included victories over Drayton, Griggs County, Climax, and Hillsboro.
Five seniors will be leaving the team: Dustin Brend, Aaron Delvo, Jason Novacek, Brandon Rakoczy and Tyler Schultz. Spencer Hillebrand, Jake Johnson and Tony Mack will be returning as seniors next season.
