In a reversal of fortunes, Hillsboro, which started the 2006 football season 0-2, is off to a 2-0 season in 2007.
The Burros ran over and around the Central Valley Valiants, 50-14, last Friday in the second of two games played last week.
In the Aug. 21 season opener, Hillsboro brushed aside Thompson, 27-6.
The 2-0 Burros play tonight at Colfax against the Richland Colts, the Class B 9-man state champion two years ago.
The out-manned Valiants were simply no match for the Burros in Hillsboro’s 36-point win Aug. 24.
The Burros fumbled inside the 5 yard line in their opening drive Friday. A 2-point safety moments later gave Hillsboro a 2-0 lead. (more…)

Burros need to tame Colts
August 31, 2007 · No Comments
Hillsboro’s Burros, ranked 5th in the first statewide power poll, play a team tonight (Friday) that’s accustomed to winning.
The Richland Colts, 6-2 last year and the 2005 state champion in 9-man football, beat Sargent Central, 34-13, last week. The Colts were beaten by Edgeley-Kulm, 20-0, in the opening week of the 2007 high school football season.
Edgeley-Kulm, knocked out of post-season play last year by the Burros, was the third ranked team this week behind Napoleon, last year’s state champ, and Mott-Regent. Divide County was this week’s 4th ranked team.
The Colts, unbeaten in their 2005 state title year, return seven starters from last year’s team.
Juan Enriquez (5-9 185 lbs.) quarterbacks the Colts. The junior started last year. (more…)

Enger wins top honors in city golf event
August 31, 2007 · No Comments
David Enger of Minneapolis walked away with top honors for the second year in a row at the Goose River Golf Club City Championship Tournament Sunday in Hillsboro.
Enger, a 1997 graduate of Hillsboro High School, bested the field again with a 75 to take the top spot in the scratch division. Enger came back from an out-of-bounds tee shot on his first shot of the day. He cobbled together a 40 on the front nine in windy conditions. He continued to ignore the troublesome wind on his second nine and fired an even par 35 to take the title.
Enger’s iron play was rock solid on the back nine and his putting was steady enough to post a couple of birdies to enable him to match par. (more…)

Friday night’s football lights weren’t needed in Hillsboro’s impressive 27-6 win over Thompson in high school football Tuesday night in Hillsboro.
The lights were turned on, however, in the second half, but by then the Burros had a 21-6 lead.
A fourth quarter TD iced the win over the Tommies in their season and home opener.
Hillsboro, coached by Mark Rerick, was 8-3 in 2006. The Burro season ended in the second round of playoffs, when Napoleon, the eventual state champion, derailed the Burros.
