David Enger of Minneapolis walked away with top honors for the second year in a row at the Goose River Golf Club City Championship Tournament Sunday in Hillsboro.
Enger, a 1997 graduate of Hillsboro High School, bested the field again with a 75 to take the top spot in the scratch division. Enger came back from an out-of-bounds tee shot on his first shot of the day. He cobbled together a 40 on the front nine in windy conditions. He continued to ignore the troublesome wind on his second nine and fired an even par 35 to take the title.
Enger’s iron play was rock solid on the back nine and his putting was steady enough to post a couple of birdies to enable him to match par.
In the handicap division, Russ Henningsgard was able to battle the breeze to shoot a net 74 for first place.
Among the senior golfers, steady Ed Laxdal posted an 85 to capture first place in the scratch division while Glenn Brustad carded a net 79 for first place in the handicap division.
Leading the high school division was Aaron Meyer. He got off to a good start and hung on in the wind to post a 92 for first place.
The tournament is an annual event for club members and residents of the Hillsboro-Halstad area.
