The defending state volleyball champion remains unbeaten and on top of the District 3 standings.
Hillsboro, with its 4-0 conference record (8-0 points), has a slim lead over Thompson (4-2, 8-3). Hillsboro, coached by Jamie Rerick is 13-10 overall.
The Burros, who played at Cooperstown last night, beat Central Valley, 3-0, Tuesday night at Buxton.
Hillsboro on Saturday competed in the Ulen-Hitterdal volleyball tournament, winning four matches and losing two.
At Central Valley Tuesday, the Burros played the kind of defense Rerick has been looking for all season. Hillsboro won the three games — 25-20, 25-15 and 25-11.
Allison Bertsch had seven kills and Mikkaela Toenies six.
“The girls seemed to be having fun out there,” offered their coach.
Winning will do that.
“But they were playing hard,” Rerick added.
Jenessa Duval was a key to the Burro attack, recording nine digs in playing the role of a key passer in the three games. She also had nine digs in the three-win match.
In Ulen and Hitterdal Saturday, the Burros beat Minto, Central Valley, Barnesville and Ulen-Hitterdal. Hillsboro was beaten by Kittson County (Minn.) and Norman County West.
“We played fairly well,” thought Rerick.
The Burro coach liked the play of Katie Floberg (28 digs), Joelle Evenson (45 assists) and Ashley Doeden (20 kills).
The Burros came home with second place in the silver bracket.
