Burros top seed in district tourney

With the start of the District 3 volleyball tournament a week away, Hillsboro has one match remaining on its 2007 regular season schedule.
The Burros play in Fargo Monday night at Oak Grove.
The District 3 tournament, hosted by Hillsboro, starts Thursday. The tourney at the Hillsboro Events Center ends Tuesday night.
The Burros, who beat West Fargo JV, 3-2, Monday night, remain at the top of the district standings.
All of coach Jamie Rerick’s players participated in the Monday night match at West Fargo.
And they were all tired at the end of the match, said the Burro coach.
“That’s a good sign, they all worked very hard. They deserved the win.”
The No. 1 seeded Burros open the tournament Thursday against Larimore, winless in the region this year. The Polar Bears are 4-20 overall.
A win Thursday will have the Burros playing in Monday’s night’s semi-final round.
Ashley Doeden led the Burros with 13 kills at West Fargo Monday night. Mikkaela Toenies added 10 kills.
Kiley Coles and Joelle Evenson led the team in assists with 16 and 15, respectively.
Once again, Brittany Wilson paced the team in digs with 23.
Allison Bertsch topped the team with three service aces.
Hillsboro finished at the top of the district standings with a 6-1 record. Thompson and Mayport-CG trailed the Burros with identical 6-2 recors.
Hillsboro was 20-11 overall. The MPCG Patriots were 22-4 overall.
