The Hillsboro girls basketball team is on a roll.

The Burros won their third and fourth straight wins this week with victories over Northern Cass and Moorhead Park Christian.

“It is a nice winning streak,” said coach Kyle Morehart. “The girls are playing with a lot of confidence.”

The 8-2 Burros were at Central Valley last night. Hatton-Northwood is here tomorrow (Saturday).

The Burros had little trouble with the Northern Cass Jaguars, winning 49-36 Monday night. The Jaguars, picked to win District 2 this year, were mentioned again this week in the Class B power poll.

Hillsboro knocked off Park Christian, 61-42, last Saturday in Moorhead.

Maggie Evenson scored 23 points in the win over Northern Cass as the Burros’ execution was flawless. They were patient in moving the ball and waiting for the high-percentage shot.

Ashley Doeden dropped in 30 against Park Christian.

Morehart credited his two juniors with good games.

“Maggie had a very nice overall game against Northern Cass and Ashley had a fine game against the Falcons.”

The Burro coach insists his team’s success can be credited to balanced scoring.

“We have three girls averaging double figures and the other two starters are at 9 points per game.”

Maggie Evenson, Katrina Meyer and Doeden are averaging just over 10 points a game. Britttany Wilson and Joelle Evenson are scoring 9 points a game.

Hillsboro opened a commanding 30-15 lead at the half against the Jaguars.

At Moorhead Saturday, Doeden dominated the game.

Meyer contributed by hitting four 3-pt. shots in the first half.

“Katrina opened the game up and the girls created the scoring opportunities for Ashley.”

Chemistry, said Morehart, has been another positive factor for the Burros, in addition to the team’s confidence.

“The difference this year is the chemistry. The girls are feeding off each other. It’s very positive.

“And we’re stepping up on defense.”

The girls, he continued, are learning that when they’re prepared they have an opportunity to win every game.
